Coffee Stop

At the ride briefing last night the weather outlook was for rain starting at 2 AM and continuing through the day, so before going to sleep I pulled out my rain gear. The winds picked up over the night nearly blowing my tent down followed by showers. I woke under cloudy skies, the wind still blowing and the rain had stopped. Most surprising, the wind had dried the tent. There is nothing pleasurable about packing a wet tent.

It was cool, about 52 degrees, as we pushed off about 7:30 AM, I guess. The rain started to catch up with us at about the 20 km mark. Mostly drizzle. The seaside town of Robe was at the 40 km point in the ride and just about the entire group piled into a local coffee shop where we occupied several tables. The local Sunday crowds eye us as we entered dripping wet. We removed our helmets wrung out our gloves and jackets and settled down to lattes, which turned into a second round as the rain continued and then on to lunch until the rain let up.

We only had another 44 km to the end of the ride, about 2 hours, and the clouds started to break up and the Sun and blue sky was a welcome sight. We arrived at the campground at about 2:30 and had expected to start setting up the tents, but were surprised to discover that we we sleeping in cabins for the night.

After a quick and warm shower we headed off to town to see the sights of Beachport. The jetty and the lighthouse. It was nice to have time to stretch our legs a bit and see the sights.

I’m preparing the blog before heading off to ride briefing and dinner but will not have a chance to upload it because the campground does not have wi-fi. With any luck, I’ll be able to upload it tomorrow.
