Oct 28th, Koalas, Chocolate and Bike Trails

Today has been a very usual day. The mileage is very short, only 41 km (26 miles), so we slept in late and didn’t have breakfast until 9 AM. I slept until 7:30 AM and took my time packing up and taking down the tent. The first stop way only about 6 km down the road at the kola wildlife refuge center where we walked among the napping kolas in the trees.

We then jumped on the bikes and biked along the bike trails for another 6 km to the Chocolate Factory were we stopped for coco and rocky road chocolate.

We again found the bike path and pushed leisurely onward. The most of the bike trails were hard packed earth. At home we wouldn’t even consider going off pavement, but on a ride like this, we often will ride miles and miles on the hard pack bike paths.

As we got closer to the end of the ride we had a ridge to climb and the view was spectacular with the ocean waves creating white churning foam along the entire width of the beaches.

We eventually dropped off the ridge and down to a bike path that is a former railroad line that has been converted to a bike path called “rails to trails”. The bike path followed the beaches for the last 10 km to our destination.

We finally rolled in at about 2:30 PM and lunch was waiting for us, all very nice.
